    Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has officially announced the commencement of sell of admission form into its School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS) for the 2025/2026 academic session

    Whether you want to strengthen your Olevel knowledge and also gain admission into 100level or want to gain admission directly into 200 level through the IJMB programme, the ABU school of basic and remedial studies(SBRS) offers one of the most reliable payh in Nigeria’s tertiary education system.

    In this post we’ll walk you through everything you need to know about ABU SBRS, from how to apply, eligibility, available subject combinations, programme benefits, deadlines, and frequently asked questions.

    What is ABU SBRS All About?

    The School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS) is a pre-degree academic programme run by Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, one of Nigeria’s most prestigious federal universities.

    Located in Funtua, Katsina State, the programme is specifically designed to help bridge the gap between secondary school education and full university admission. It offers students the opportunity to either:

    • Enroll into the 9 month remedial program that helps them cover some Olevel syllabus that they might not have cover in secondary school and also gain admission into 100 level, or
    • Prepare for direct entry admission into 200 Level through IJMB (Interim Joint Matriculation Board).

    SBRS Application Eligibility

    Before applying for the ABU SBRS, it’s important to understand the eligibility rules for each of the programme:

    • Remedial Programme is strictly open to candidates from the 19 Northern States of Nigeria.
    • IJMB (Basic) Programme is open to applicants from all states in Nigeria North, South, East, and West.

    This distinction helps ABU prioritize educational support across regions and ensures fair academic opportunities for students from various backgrounds.

    Programmes offered by SBRS and subject requirements

    ABU SBRS offers two major academic programmes.

    1. Remedial Programme (For Northern States Only)

    This track is suitable for candidates seeking to improve their O’Level knowledge and gain admission through UTME(100 level)

    Duration: 9 months

    Subject Combinations to apply for:

    •  Remedial Science 1: English, Biology, Chemistry, and Geography
    • Remedial Science 2: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
    • Remedial Science 3: English, Mathematics, Biology, Physics, and Geography
    • Remedial Science 4: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, and Geography

    Admission Criteria into ABU After Completion of the Remedial program:

    • You must sit for JAMB the same year you’re running the program.
    • You need at least 180 in JAMB and 2 points from SBRS internal exams to qualify for admission into ABU Zaria.
    • If you’re going fo a competitive courses like Medicine, Nursing, or Radiography, you need to score much higher.
    • SBRS uses a 5-point grading system for Remedial.

    2. Basic (IJMB) Programme (Open to All Nigerians)

    This programme is equivalent to A-levels and is highly recommended for students who want to skip JAMB and gain admission into 200 level in ABU or other universities.

    Duration: 15 months

    Subject Combinations to apply for:

    Below are some subject combination one can apply for.

    • Basic Science 1: Biology, Chemistry, and Physics
    • Basic Science 2: Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics
    • Basic Science 3: Physics, Chemistry, and Geology
    • Basic Science 4: Chemistry, Geography, and Physics
    • Basic Science 5: Geography, Mathematics, and Physics
    • Basic Science 6: Chemistry, Geology, and Physics

    2. Click Create Account” or Login” if you already have one

    3. Fill in your personal details (full name, email, gender, phone number, etc.)

    4. Choose your preferred programme –Remedial or Basic (IJMB)

    5. Upload your passport photo, O’Level result, and contact info

    6. Click “Buy Form”

    7. Proceed to pay online via your ATM card or print the transaction slip and pay at any commercial bank

    8. Submit your application and keep your payment receipt safe

    Application Fee: ₦10,000 (Ten Thousand Naira Only)
    Form Opens: 30th June 2025
    Application Closes: 31 December 2025
