ABU Cut-Off Mark 2025
The official JAMB or general cut-off mark for ABU Zaria is 180 for the 2025/2026 academic session.
The general cut-off mark is the minimum score a candidate must have in the JAMB UTME to qualify for ABU Post UTME registration and be considered for admission.
This means any candidate who scores below 180 in their JAMB UTME is not eligible to register for ABU Post UTME or participate in the admission process.

How ABU Calculates Post UTME Aggregate Score
Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) uses an aggregate scoring system to determine if a candidate is eligible for admission into various departments and courses.
📌 Here’s how the ABU admission aggregate is calculated:
- Both JAMB and Post UTME scores are marked over 400.
- The two scores are added together and divided by 2 to get the final aggregate.
Formula:
(JAMB Score + Post UTME Score) ÷ 2 = Aggregate Score
This aggregate score is what ABU uses to rank candidates for admission. Each department has its own cut-off mark, so the higher your aggregate, the better your chances most especially for competitive courses.
ABU Departmental Cut-Off Mark
ABU Zaria does not usually publish departmental cut-off marks. However, from past admission data, staff insights, and aspirants experiences, we will drop some estimate aggregate cut-off marks for some popular courses.
Medicine and Surgery(MBBS)
Estimated Cut-Off: 250 – 300
Medicine is one of the most competitive courses in ABU. Candidates from catchment areas usually need a score of at least 250, while the general merit cut-off is as high as 300 in recent years.

Nursing Science
Estimated Cut-Off: 230 – 260
Nursing is one of the most competitive medical related courses at ABU. Due to its popularity and limited admission slots, You’ll need to score high to stand a chance. If you’re aiming for Nursing Science, target a JAMB score of 230 and above to place yourself in a strong position. The higher, the better, especially if you’re not from a catchment area.

Medical Laboratory Science (MLS)
Estimated Cut-Off: 220 – 260
Medical Laboratory Science is also a highly competitive course. What makes it even tougher is that the quota (number of admitted students) is very limited, meaning only a few applicants are admitted each year. To boost your chances you’ll aim for a score between 220 and 260 or higher.
Radiography
Estimated Cut-Off: 230 – 260
Radiography, like MLS, is a medical course with few available slots and highly competitive. If you’re considering this course, you should aim for the highest score possible, Ideally a score of 230 and above. A score within the 230–260 range can give you a very good chance, but going even higher increases your chances significantly.
Law
Estimated Cut-Off: 250+
Law is one of the most competitive courses in ABU, especially because of its prestige and demand. The minimum score for consideration is usually around 250, but depending on your state of origin, you may need to score even higher. For applicants outside of ABU catchment areas, only 2–3 candidates per state are typically admitted, so a much higher score is recommended.
Engineering Courses
Competitive Engineering Courses
Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical, and Computer Engineering
Estimated Cut-Off: 230 – 250+
These are among the most applied engineering programs. To increase your chances of gaining admission, aim for a JAMB score of 230 or above. Due to their popularity and high number of applicants, scoring high is will give you a better chance of securing admission
Less Competitive Engineering Courses
Textile, Water Resources, Metallurgical, Automotive, and Electronics & Telecommunications Engineering
Estimated Cut-Off: 190 – 210
These engineering programs are not as competitive, and as such, candidates with scores from 190 and above may still have a fair chance of being admitted. However, scoring above 200 will improve your chances.
Computer Science
Estimated Cut-Off: 200 – 250+
Computer Science is one of the most apply courses in ABU Zaria. Due to the high number of applicants and limited admission slots, it is highly competitive. The higher your score, the better your chances of gaining admission.
According to the Head of the Department of Computer Science during the 2024/2025 orientation programme, over 2,000 candidates applied for Computer Science, but only about 150 were admitted.
This means that to stand out and beat the competition, you’ll need to aim for a high JAMB, 250 and above puts you in a much stronger position, especially if you’re not from a catchment area.
Political Science
Estimated Cut-Off: 210 – 230
Political Science is a highly sought after course in ABU, especially among social science applicants. To stand a good chance, aim for a score of at least 210, though 220–230 and above puts you in a stronger position.
International Studies
Estimated Cut-Off: 210 – 230
Closely related to Political Science, International Studies is also a competitive course. While it doesn’t get as much applicants like Law or Mass Communication, it still attracts many candidates. A JAMB score of 210 and above is advisable, with 220+ improving your chances even higher.
Mass Communication
Estimated Cut-Off: 200 – 250
Mass Communication is one of the most competitive Social Science courses in ABU. Due to its popularity and limited admission slots, the required score is relatively high. Aspirants should aim for a minimum of 230, but a score closer to 250 or higher gives you a much better chance of being admitted.
Economics
Estimated Cut-Off: 210 – 230
Economics is another popular course that attracts many students each year. The competition is moderate to high. A JAMB score of 210 and above is typically considered, but scoring 220 or more will significantly improve your chances of gaining admission, especially in years with high applicant turnout.
Education Courses
Estimated Cut-Off: 180 and Above
Courses under the Faculty of Education are generally less competitive compared to other faculties like Medicine, Law, or Engineering. As long as you apply for an educational course and score 180 or above, your chances of getting admitted are significantly high.
While some courses may have more applicants than others, the overall competition level is moderate. So, if you’re aiming for a course in Education, maintaining a decent score and meeting all admission requirements will place you in a good position.
Other Factors That Affect Admission into ABU
While having a high aggregate score greatly improves your chances of gaining admission, it’s not the only thing ABU considers. Other important factors like your subject combination and O’level results also play a major role.
Subject Combination:
Ensure you have the correct JAMB subject combination for the course you applied for. Using the wrong combination may automatically disqualify you, no matter how high your score is.
O’Level Requirements:
You must have the core subjects required for your course in your WAEC, NECO, or equivalent results, preferably with credit passes. Missing any of these subjects can affect your chance of gainning admission.
